Too Scared to Not Hustle

June 26, 2012

Poppa K (my fairy godfather) sent me the movie “Too Big to Fail.” So I watched it while working on my side hustle. The movie was so confusing I watched it twice. I mean I was already confused when we were in the midst of the financial crisis. But watching the movie I learned a little, got some clarification on what really happened. But this movie actually scared me more because behind the scenes we were actually more screwed than we all thought or knew. Read the rest of this entry »

Summer of Savings

July 5, 2011

My not so nice spring carried over in to the start of my summer. I had a financial conundrum.  My house in Decatur had been empty for months. I was paying a mortgage in GA and rent in NYC. It was breaking me. My rent was going up on my apartment. My savings were depleted. I wasn’t really sure what to do. But y’all know me and I ALWAYS have a plan. Read the rest of this entry »

Six Figure Reality

March 29, 2011

I always said by the time I was 30 I would like to make six figures…and I do…but before y’all start making jokes about me being a big baller or asking me for a loan let’s look at the reality of how I got there and what it really means. Read the rest of this entry »

401K to IRA

July 20, 2010

I hate to admit it but I haven’t been the most financially responsible when it comes to my 401K.  When I left Instyle in March I was presented with what some would say is a golden opportunity.  I could roll over my 401K in to an IRA and have more control over my retirement investing.  Most people take the easy (and some would say lazy way) and just roll over their 401K in to their new company 401K BUT my new job doesn’t do 401K matching so I knew I wasn’t going to go with that option.  But it’s July and I still haven’t done anything with my old 401K. April Challenge – Bring Lunch to Work Month

March 25, 2010

Since I started my new job it’s like I have overdosed on lunch.  What you have to understand is that at my previous job I was so busy that most days I didn’t eat lunch.  Now I go to lunch regularly with my co-workers Orlando and JJ.  But I am notorious for spending $10-20 just on lunch.  SO it’s time for one of my notorious financial self-challenges.  For the month of April, no more eating out for lunch.  That should save me about $20o BUT given that I have to do some major grocery shopping so I can have food to bring to work I don’t see saving  a whole lot but some savings is better than no savings.  The real challenge for me is going to be seeing if I can make $100 to $200 worth of groceries last all month.
